Designed by PDT Architects parent company SFA Architects, the design team developed a master plan and conceptual design for 200 apartment units for the city center of Aomori. Developed as a response to heavy snow conditions and a need for quality, high density urban in-fill: the design clusters four buildings around a central greenhouse/ lobby, shops, community center and childcare facilities. There is a section of family apartments, senior living condominiums and studio style apartment lofts. Units are separated into blocks determined by noise, privacy, and accessibility concerns. Central courts contain ice rinks, playgrounds and raised planting areas above underground parking facilities. Individual units are oriented around glass enclosed balconies with each rooftop containing a winter garden.
