KROHN CONSERVATORY MASTER PLAN
SFA Architects, the parent company of PDT Architects, provided conceptual design services to the City of Cincinnati Board of Park Commissioners for a Master Plan to expand and renovate one of the City's more prominent landmarks, Krohn Conservatory. The expansion included a doubling in size of horticultural displays, new underground entrance and galleries, a restaurant, banquet and meeting rooms, a gift shop and master plan for parking. The design respected the integrity of the historical form by providing an expanded underground entrance along the north facade with organic, leaf formed skylights overhead. Horticultural display areas were developed to provide two interior courtyards and a continuous path for the flow of visitors. A rear addition climbed the hillside to take advantage of the riverfront views, budding out of the ground with interlocking botanical shapes. An interior restaurant was developed to perch on the rocky crags above the waterfall. |
