PRIVATE LOFT - PENDLETON ART DISTRICT
Renovation of a 5,200 square foot historic 1879 Italianate townhouse, located in the Pendleton Arts District. Although the building served as a rooming house and had fallen into serious disrepair, many of the original details and elements such as; the original railing and balustrade at the main staircase, twelve fireplaces, four-panel hardwood doors with transoms, and the original longleaf pine hardwood floors still remained intact and were able to be restored to their former glory. The renovation was a delicate balance between the existing historic elements and the owner/designer's desire for the clean lines of a modern loft. With the extremely tight budget in mind, many of the design elements were salvaged, vintage, or owner-fabricated. A custom design for the secondary staircase utilizes antique Douglas Fir beams salvaged from other areas of the building.
