SHILLITO CONDOMINIUMS
This renovation project transformed an abandoned department store into a multi-use urban center, which included 97 unique loft apartments. Originally commissioned in 1876, several renovations had cost the building much of its initial grandeur. A distinct challenge of the project was to restore some of the stateliness, while still providing functional living and working space. The most dramatic feature of the restoration was the reopening of the seven-story, sky lit Grand Atrium. Infilled during earlier renovations, the restored atrium extends from the first floor of apartments, through six upper floors, to a brand new skylight, which has been carefully fitted over the original wrought iron framework.
